MEETING WITH GS OF COMECE
- Created: 24 December 2019
- Last Updated: 24 December 2019
On September 11, 2019 the Representatives of Orthodox Churches to the European Union (CROCEU) based in Brussels met with the new General Secretary of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) Fr Manuel Barrios Prieto. It was an occasion to get to know a new person in the capital of Europe and share common concerns. There has been a steady and reciprocally useful relationship between the members of the two organizations. Metropolitan Athanasios of Achaia, director of the Office representing the Church of Greece to the EU, had the opportunity to raise three main concerns: the growing gap between wealth and poverty in the world at large, the environmental crisis and the pressure in the society due to the drama of migration as a result of proxy wars. His Grace asked the GS to propose to the members of COMECE to think about planning a closer collaboration with CROCEU in regard to these topics.
